Smooth aromas of currant, blackberry, cherry, cedar and cigar box.

Smooth, dark and sensual, with floral aromas and black licorice scents. Blackberry, ripe cherry, currant with baking spice scents across the palate. Layered body with rounded structure. Finish is full bodied and a velvety texture of cream and smoke.

Try pairing this wine with heavier more complex dishes and sauces. Incorporating salt, acid or fruit flavors may enhance it. Try a Balsamic glaze with beef tenderloin; venison or turkey with cranberry sauce. Gorgonzola cheese or delectable desserts such as dark chocolate cake, coffee ice cream, berries in dark chocolate sauce.

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: 96 Points

“A selection of the best barrels results in the wine called Clew. This is a big, powerful wine, particularly the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Clew, which comes from Coombsville. One hundred-seventy cases were made of this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in 100% French oak, this is no wimpy wine at 15.5% alcohol. It is super-concentrated, with a stunning nose of graphite, licorice and forest floor followed by off-the-charts richness, a skyscraper-like texture, and massive blueberry and blackberry fruit in addition to some loamy soil undertones. This stunner is still incredibly youthful and primary but promises to evolve and be drinkable in 5-7 years and last three decades or more.”

Clew: a ball of thread, yarn, or cord.

In Greek Mythology, Ariadne is the immortal wife of Dionysus, the ancient Greek god of wine, winemaking, grape cultivation and fertility. She was also the daughter of King Minos, and one version indicates that she helped Theseus slay the Minotaur and survive the Labyrinth. She gave him the clew, or ball of thread, that kept him from getting lost in the Minotaur’s maze.
