Known in Spain as Monastrell, it is most commonly known by its french name: Mourvedre which is used in the blending of Chateauneuf du Pape wines in the Rhône blog with Grenache and Syrah.
The grape is believed to have been brought by Phoenician colonists and traders into Spain around 500 B.C.
Its normally a full bodied wine full of fruit and leather and usually blended but rarely seen presented in its full form such as in this case.
